7-member team to recommend potential buyer to hospital district
The sale of Huntsville Memorial Hospital is coming closer to fruition after hospital district board members began piecing together a committee which soon will listen to proposals from potential buyers, then make a recommendation about the hospital’s future.
On Wednesday night, the Walker County Hospital District Board of Managers selected two of its members, as well as two members of the Huntsville Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and two doctors to serve on the committee. Hospital district chairman Robert Hardy said the committee will work with the district’s financial adviser to interview health care providers who have expressed an interest in purchasing HMH.
“We had 10 or 12 inquiries about the hospital, and we have narrowed it down to five,” Hardy said Wednesday. “That list will be narrowed down as well and those potential buyers will make proposals to the committee, who in turn will make a recommendation to us.”
After the committee decides which provider is the best fit to buy the hospital, it will relay its findings to the hospital district board, which will vote on the final decision.
